INDIO — In an effort to make the planet a better place to live and breathe, the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians are sponsoring their Third Annual Household Hazardous Waste Roundup, Saturday, April 11 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., on the grounds at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio.
Household chemicals, cleaners and pesticides help us in our daily lives. But if not used or stored correctly, these solvents and mixtures can pose a serious toxic threat and a major source of pollution in every home. Federal government statistics show that airborne contaminants are on the rise, affecting millions of people with breathing problems, such as asthma, emphysema and COPD. The most efficient way to cut down on the effects of air pollution is to make sure these containers are disposed of properly.
Individuals and homeowners are invited to bring their household hazardous waste items to the handling facility, which is adjacent to the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians Tribal Office, for immediate disposal. Examples of household hazardous waste include bleach, cleaners and deodorizers, aerosol and spray cans, ammonia, polishes, paints, glues, thinners, turpentine, fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, antifreeze, motor oil, gas and diesel fuel, e-waste (computers, mouse, keyboards, monitors, etc.), pool chemicals and more. No medical, ammunition, explosives or radioactive waste will be accepted.
Don’t wait until the next roundup in the fall to make a difference today. Disposal is free. |
