Indian Wells Tennis tournament for 2009 had a new sponsor. BNP Paribas took over as title sponsor for the next few years. They created a new beginning by awarding women the same prize money as the men $4.5 million for each. Women and men's finals were also on Sun., March 22, this year with the doubles final matches on Sat, March 21. Upsets were the norm this year as some of the top seeds left early.
